ART CLUB DRAWS INTEREST
By PAIGE STRELLA and JORDAN HARMON
Room 210 Staff Writers
Eighth grade student Sarah McDonough is busy working on her project.
As the eyes take form on the wall, her masterpiece is nearly finished.
"It's fun drawing on the wall without getting into trouble," Sarah, a member of the South Middle School Art Club, said.
This is only one of many projects that can be seen at Art Club.Art Club is held 3:15 to 5 p.m. every Thursday in the art room at South Middle School. It is designed for eighth grade students to be able to show their creativity.
Mr. Wolf, the Art Club sponsor, is also the school's art teacher. He is impressed by the club's turnout. "The most people we have had present has been 18 people," he said. "We have 10 regulars attending recently. It has been growing every year. We have had many projects started this year, but our main goal is redecorating the art room by painting on the walls.
"If I were to describe Art Club," said Mr. Wolf, "it would be controlled, creative exuberance."
One student attending is Tiffany Urton. She says Art Club is "artishly fun." She has recently been working on flat weaving and painting the walls. She also is trying to decide what she would like to paint on the walls.
Another student attending, Melissa Summers, said, "Art Club is a way to show your creativity if you're not in an art class." She has also recently been working on her wall painting named Harold. Harold is a disco skater man. "Art Club is a place to hang out with friends," Melissa said.
So all eighth graders attending South Middle School are invited to come and check out Art Club. It is an after-school activity where you can hang out and have fun.
   See you there!
